Principality of Liechtenstein
Internationally connected in the heart of Europe
The Principality of Liechtenstein has almost 40,000 inhabitants and is located in the heart of Europe, between Switzerland and Austria. The city of Zurich is an hour’s drive away, Munich two hours. Most international cities can be reached within two hours via Zurich Airport or via the nearby small airport in Altenrhein/St. Gallen, which is only half an hour away from our head office in Vaduz.
Liechtenstein benefits from a very stable political and economic environment and therefore offers an ideal starting point for various private and business projects. The Principality celebrated its 300th anniversary in 2019. The number of jobs, especially within the financial center and the innovative high-tech industry, is almost equal to the number of inhabitants.
Liechtenstein is a member of the European Economic Area (EEA). There has been a customs treaty with Switzerland since 1923 and the Swiss franc is the official currency. As a unique selling point, this opens up excellent “passporting” opportunities, both to Switzerland and to the EU.
One of Liechtenstein’s striking advantages is the availability of all relevant services within short distances. This enables flexibility with short decision-making channels – in a legal area controlled by the Financial Market Authority.
International groups such as Hilti, Ivoclar, Thyssen Krupp and Hilcona value the framework conditions in Liechtenstein and have been operating from here for many years.
The tax system in Liechtenstein is deliberately kept simple, but still meets international standards.
The so-called flat tax rate is currently 12.5% on the taxable net income of legal entities, a minimum income tax of CHF 1,800.00 and a VAT rate of currently 2.6 to 8.1%.
